Tim Tebow to the Jacksonville Jaguars is a Smokescreen
Looking at some of the theories on why the Jags signed Tebow, and why most of them are probably wrong.
On the 20th May ‘21, Tim Tebow officially signed as a Jacksonville Jaguar.
The move was publicised with a lengthy press release that might well have left other fringe prospects wondering when their big announcements were coming. But come they would not, because Tebow isn’t an ordinary player.
Of course, the Jacksonville Jaguars just signed another player who isn’t ordinary. There are those who believe that Trevor Lawrence is a generational talent, a la Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, who will disrupt the league for upwards of a decade. I am, for the record, one of them.
Why then, many are asking, would they take the risk of signing Tim Tebow and the inevitable media circus that follows him? Well, there’s a number of possible reasons. But, in my opinion, one is much more likely than the others.
“Tebow is only there for leadership”
There are players in the NFL who are synonymous with a certain brand of leadership that’s impossible to teach. Alex Smith, Ray Lewis, Larry Fitzgerald and Tom Brady (🤷♂️) all spring to mind.
